Golfing

Fife and the surrounding districts of Perthshire and Angus have some of the best and most famous golf courses in the world. As well as the legendary courses at St Andrew, Gleneagles and Carnoustie, there are also some other hidden gems for keen golfers to explore. Here is a rundown of some of the best courses available.

St Andrews, Old Course

St Andrew is the undisputed home of golf. Home to the most famous golf course in the world the "Old Course", and also the headquarters of world golf's ruling body, the R & A, St Andrews has been the venue of many memorable British Open Championships as well as events like the Alfred Dunhill Cup.
Approximately 25 minutes drive from the
Kirenny.

Crail

The course in nearby Crail is immaculately kept and has the distinction of being amongst the oldest in the world. Very picturesque with wonderful sea views, Crail is well worth a visit and is less than 10 minutes drive from Kilrenny.

Kingsbarns

Not as well known  as some other courses  - YET!, Kingsbarns on the outskirts of St Andrews is one of the most breathtaking golf courses in the world. Part of a major new golf complex, the Kingsbarns course has won rave reviews from experts and top professionals and is likened by many to Pebble Beach in America. Demand is very high for this new course, but if you are lucky enough to book a tee-time you will be able to look back on an unforgetable golfing experience.
Approximately 20 minutes drive from Kilrenny.

Gleneagles

The beautiful inland courses at Gleneagles are among some of the most exclusive in the world. The Scottish PGA championship has been held here in recent years - and Gleneagles is on the short list to host the Ryder Cup in 2009.
Approximately 55 minutes drive from Kilrenny.

Carnoustie

Carnoustie is widely acknowledged as one of the sternest tests of links golf around. It recently hosted the 1999 British Open Championship won by Paul Lawrie. Who will ever forget the dramatic last hole collapse of Jean Van Der Velde as he disastrously found water in the Barry Burn.
Approximately 1 hours drive from Kilrenny.
